Accredit Laboratories Ltd. uses validated methods to test medicinal plants, plant extracts, other food ingredients and food supplements. The range of available test types is constantly expanding, but we also perform measurements on request.
You can select the analytical tests from the methods under the Tests menu, where you will also find detailed information on the purpose, procedure and price of the tests.
After ordering, we will contact you to arrange sample collection. You will be informed of the result of the test by the requested means (electronic or printed document).
One of the main uses of food supplements, other finished products and the raw materials used in their manufacture the most important quality characteristic is the active substance content. In our laboratory, regardless of the formulation, from pill to drop we can detect and quantify active substances, from simple vitamin preparations to complex herbal products.
We have the experience that particularly challenging herbal preparations necessary for the investigation. Herbs are very often supplied to the consumer as extracts or as products containing extracts of several plants. The quality of the product is influenced by each of the ingredients and even by the way it is processed. It is therefore essential that not only the quality of the herbs used is controlled, but also the quality of the final product for consumption. It is possible that the quality of the herb used as the main ingredient is excellent, but that the quality of the product is compromised by an auxiliary ingredient, a contaminant or even chemical changes during processing.
Product quality testing may be directed at the detection and quantification of active substances. Such tests may be necessary even if the product is made from a medicinal plant with a tested active substance, as the active substance content may be reduced during processing. High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), gas chromatography (GC), other chromatographic and spectrophotometric methods are used to determine the active substance content.
The key to the quality of a product or product raw material is that do not contain compounds that may be undesirable for the consumer. Our tests are designed to detect any substance that may be present in a product or raw material that could impair its quality or pose a direct risk to the health of the consumer.
Herbs or herbal extracts are a special group for purity testing. There are substances in medicinal plants that occur naturally, but their presence in larger quantities is undesirable. Product quality testing shall, where justified, include the following for herbal products added synthetic active substances also to detect. When herbal ingredients do not have the effect that consumers expect, some manufacturers (illegally) add synthetic substances to their products to achieve this. A special case of adulteration is when a substitute a rare or expensive plant material with a cheaper one.
In our laboratory we not only test extracts but also herbal drugs (dried plant parts used for medicinal purposes). Identity testing is the the basis for quality testing of herbal drugs, to determine which part of the plant species the drug under test comes from. The identity test involves several tests, as a single test is not sufficient for a definitive identification.
